At KVIA ApS, cow brushes are not mass-produced at a distance. Every single brush that leaves the workshop near Aabenraa has passed through the hands of Jacob Billund – co-owner and responsible for day-to-day operations.

KVIA develops and assembles cow brushes for cows, heifers, and calves in a wide range of variants. The brushes are available with or without a motor, in different colors, and with several types of iron and brush materials. This allows farmers to choose a solution that fits their barn, animals, and budget perfectly.

All components are purchased separately and assembled in the workshop, where the focus is on durability, function, and long service life. Although the cow brushes are sold through dealers in Denmark, KVIA is responsible for assembly, testing, and service.

“We do not compromise on quality. The cow brushes must be able to withstand many years of use in the barn – with as little maintenance as possible,” says Jacob Billund.

For customers who want the very best in operational reliability, KVIA offers brushes with German motors. These models come with up to a five-year warranty. At the same time, we are constantly working to find motor solutions for farmers who prioritize a lower purchase price.

Materials selected for the barn environment

The iron for KVIA cow brushes is produced by local blacksmiths. The fixed parts, such as wall brackets, are often made of galvanized steel, while moving components are typically made of stainless steel.

Experience shows that many Danish farmers prefer galvanized iron, as it matches the other equipment in the barn. In other markets, stainless steel is more often chosen, and therefore both solutions are offered.

The brushes themselves are available in both nylon and PE. PE brushes provide a more pronounced scratching effect, while nylon is more flexible and characterized by its long durability.

Flexible solutions for different barns

KVIA cow brushes are available in several configurations, so they can be adapted to both small and large barns. Some models are free-hanging and rotating, while others are fixed and space-saving.

One of the popular models is Otto, which is mounted at an angle and suitable for barns and stalls with limited space. It is particularly in demand among dealers who work with older or compact barn buildings.

There is great interest in calf brushes in export markets, especially Germany. Animal welfare is playing an increasingly important role here, and access to cow brushes can in some cases add value to the price of milk.

Tested in practice – not just on the drawing board

All KVIA cow brushes are tested in practice at a dairy farm with approximately 820 cows, owned by co-founder Gerth Petersen. Here, operation, wear, and function are tested under realistic conditions before the solutions are offered to customers.

The motors can be supplied with frequency converters, which reduce power consumption and ensure gentler operation.

KVIA cow brushes are sold in Denmark through selected partners and are also exported to countries including Norway, Germany, Estonia, the USA, and New Zealand.
